Founded in 1994, the Germantown Performing Arts Center is dedicated to bringing internationally acclaimed talent to perform for more than 100,000 visitors each year. In addition to its main stage theater, the performing arts center also hosts performances at two outdoor stages as well as a smaller black box theater. In November of 1994, Ray Charles was the first performance featured at the Germantown Performing Arts Center, and since then, the board has been committed to bringing the brightest stars and the best talent to the venue. Concert series are among the most popular events at GPAC, including artists from nearly every genre; however, other types of performances including ballet, modern dance, and even magic are also featured on the various stages. The GPAC also highlights a variety of visual artists who host artist receptions that are free and open to the public. Master classes and lecture series are also part of the regular programming as a way to enrich the lives of community members through art.
Another way in which GPAC is committed to enriching the lives of community members is through the ArtSavvy programs, a variety of interactive classes and events, all of which are free and open to the public. Beyond the standard lecture series, these events invite members of the community to learn more about some of the inspirations and artistic techniques used by featured artists. As with the performances and genres featured at the Germantown Performing Arts Center, ArtSavvy events are diverse and varied, ensuring individuals have access to a wide range of subject material.
